derwood.jpgDerwood B. Dunbar, Jr. serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mid-Atlantic Group Network of Shared Services (MAGNET), a position he has held since 1989. A founder of MAGNET in 1979, Mr. Dunbar has also served as its Chairman and Vice-Chairman.

Previously, Mr. Dunbar served in a variety of positions with the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania and the Hospital Council of Central Pennsylvania.

Mr. Dunbar did his undergraduate work at North Park University in Chicago where he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and business administration. He received his Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he has also attended Advanced Management Programs at Wharton and at Cornell University. Mr. Dunbar is a Diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Fellow of the Professional Society of Healthcare Group Purchasing, and a Fellow of the Association of Healthcare Resource and Materials Management.

Additionally, in 1990 Mr. Dunbar co-founded and served as the first president of the Health Industry Group Purchasing Association (HIGPA) - the Washington-based lobbying and advocacy organization for the healthcare group purchasing industry. From 1998-2000 Mr. Dunbar served as HIGPA’s Chairman and continues to serve on its board of directors.

Mr. Dunbar also serves on the Exposition Advisory Board of the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH).
