MOHCC, The Monmouth Ocean Healthcare Cooperative, an affiliate of The Monmouth Ocean Hospital Service Corporation (MONOC), is a non-profit shared services organization.

YEARS OF OPERATION:

MONOC was formed in 1978 as "a cooperative venture to improve health care and reduce costs."

MISSION STATEMENT:

It is MONOC's mission to improve health care and reduce costs through cooperative ventures among its member healthcare facilities.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES:

In addition to group purchasing, MOHCC offers other specialty programs including personnel agency services. It's affiliate, MONOC, offers Mobile Intensive Care Services, Specialty Care Transport, MEDEVAC, EMS and Transport Basic Life Support Services, Bariatric Transport, and EMS educational courses.

GROUP SIZE/GEOGRAPHY:

MONOC is comprised of twenty acute care hospitals located throughout New Jersey. Together this shared services consortium acts as a health care co-operative for these acute care hospitals, and the residents that they serve, living in more than 2,000 square miles along New Jersey's northern, central and southern shore, covering all or part of nine counties. It includes hospitals from three of New Jersey's premier integrated health care delivery networks; Meridian Health System, Robert Wood Johnson Health Network and the Saint Barnabas Health System.

MARKETING STRATEGIES:

Because of MONOC's uniquely small size, it requires no sales representatives to call on member facilities. Instead, its focus is a very personal one-on-one interaction between member hospitals and MONOC's management. The hospitals govern MONOC's group purchasing activity through a steering committee comprised of the materiels managers of each hospital, which meets monthly.
